Joseph Romano

Joseph Romano, age 89, of Derby entered into rest on July 13, 2012 at Shelton Lakes Convalescent Center. 

He is the devoted husband of 64 years to Frances Nero Romano. 

Mr. Romano was born in Shelton on Dec. 8, 1922 son of the late Joseph and Julia Esposito Romano, and was a Derby resident for most of his life. 

He was a Sergeant serving with the U.S. Army during WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre including serving in the Battle of Sipan. 

Mr. Romano was the President of the former Statewide Finance Company, and also prepared private income taxes for clients for over 50 years. 

He was on the Redevelopment Agency Board for the City of Derby, and along with George Hegyi started VARCA and was the former president of the organization, and was a past president of the State Association of Retarded Children. 

He is the loving father of Michael Romano and Jacqueline Romano, brother of Bob Romano, the cherished grandfather of, Stacy, Alyssa and Michael Romano, Jr., and also leaves several nieces and nephews. 

He is predeceased by 2 brothers the late Frank Romano and the former Mayor of Derby Ralph Romano. 

Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. 

His funeral will leave the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Jude’s Church Derby. 

His burial with military honors will follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery.
