Joseph Rowley, age 89, retired Chief of Police of the Orange Department of Police Services passed away on Wednesday October 4th.
He was the husband of the late Jacklyn Belko Rowley. He was born in Ansonia son of the late Joseph J Rowley and Mary Ella Frawley Rowley. He is survived by a son Kevin (Patricia) Rowley, of Ansonia two daughters Denice Rowley Hunt of Ansonia and Marcia (David) Rowley Bilodeau of Ansonia, grandchildren, Megan Rowley (Willie), Patrick (Kaitlyn) Rowley, Joseph (Michelle) Hunt and great grandchildren, Grayson and Paityn Hunt, Emmett and Otto Rowley. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, especially special nephew Sean Rowley.
He was predeceased by son-in-law John Hunt, grandson Jeffrey Hunt, sisters Marjorie Andrew, Evelyn Slezak, Irma Novak, Pauline Pergola and brothers Salvatore Impelliteri, Michael Impelliteri, William Rowley and James Rowley.
Joe graduated from Assumption School (1947) Ansonia, High School (1951) University of New Haven with a BS degree in Criminal Justice (1976). His four years in the US Air Force was spent as an Air Traffic Controller and served in Korea for one year. In July 1959 he was appointed a police officer for the Town of Orange.
His police career covered thirty-six years during which time he served as a Sergeant, Lieutenant, Commander of Investigative Services, Asst. Chief and Chief of Police. Upon retirement, he and Jacklyn enjoyed many trips to their condo in Surfside Beach, South Carolina and became full time residents of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina in 2004.
Due to health issues they returned to Connecticut in 2016. Joe was a lifetime member of the Conn. Chiefs of Police Assoc. and the New England Chiefs of Police Association.
He was also a member of the American Legion.Calling hours will be Tuesday October 10 from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Bennett Funeral Home 91 N Cliff St Ansonia. A mass of Christian burial will be held in the Church of the Assumption 23 N. Cliff St. Ansonia on October 11 at 12 noon with friends and relatives going directly to Church.
Entombment will take place at Mt. St. Peters Cemetery Derby, CT with full military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Assumption School in care of the funeral home.
