Julius I. Douglas

Julius I. Douglas, age 87, husband to Anna Mae Thomas Douglas and resident of Ansonia, passed away on Nov. 20, 2015. 

He was born June 20, 1928 at home on (the former) Broad St. Ansonia, to the late Grant Douglas and Minnie Gatison Douglas. 

Julius served in the U.S. Army and worked as an Art Teacher for the Westport Public Schools. He attended Ansonia Public Schools and wrote the song for his graduating high school class of 1946. 

Julius an active member of the community, served on Ansonia’s Board of Education, in particular the building committee for Ansonia’s new high school. He was a regular blood donor for over 30 years. He was a member and former Exalted Ruler of The Copper City Elks I.B.P.O.E. of W., as well as the founder and director of Copper City Elks Drill Team. Julius sang in several gospel quartets and was an active parishioner, trustee and Sunday school teacher of Macedonia Baptist Church in Ansonia. 

In addition to his loving wife Anna Mae, he leaves his daughter Lydia Douglas-Cordova, sister Lily Douglas, granddaughters Chrystal Ferreira and Alicia Marie Cassisi and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Julius was predeceased by his son Maco James, 3 brothers Matthew, Grant Jack” and James Douglas and 2 sisters Minnie Louise Douglas and Alean E. Thomas. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28th at 12 NOON at Macedonia Baptist Church in Ansonia. Calling hours are 10:00 a.m. to 12 NOON. Burial will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the family for the creation of an art student scholarship fund.
