Justine Oates, age 97, of Shelton entered into peaceful rest on Tuesday, June 21,2022 with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul R. Oates, Sr. Justine was born in Derby on July 19, 1924, daughter of the late William and Mary (Hession) Hien. She lived most of her adult life in Shelton.
She was a member of the Shelton Senior Center for many years, and most recently, she attended Moving with Hope in Shelton. The family extends its gratitude to the staff there for the care they showed Justine. They looked after her physical well-being and gave an invaluable sense of playfulness to her later years. Thanks especially to her “honorary granddaughter,” Claudia, Helen, her devoted friend and caregiver, and Dr. Elliot Mathias, her longtime physician.
Justine leaves behind her son Paul Oates (Sue) and daughter, Mary Lou Oates. She was a proud grandmother to Meghan and Eric Oates, and is survived by several nephews and their families. Justine was predeceased by her sister, Mildred Mott.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton on Monday, June 27 from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. A Mass will follow at St. Margaret Mary Church, Shelton at 11 a.m.
