Katherine Sym, age 90 of Shelton, entered into her eternal rest on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, NY. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Sym, who passed away in 1998.
Katherine was born in Bridgeport, CT on Aug. 25, 1923, daughter of the late Stephen and Katherine (Budzinski) Bespuda. She was a Shelton resident for over 60 years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed many crafts, including needlepoint, quilting, ceramics, and sewing. Katherine was a member of the Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church for most of her life, a member of the Shelton and Orange Senior Citizen’s Centers, the American Russian Citizen’s Club, and was a former 4 H Leader.
She is the beloved mother of Joseph Sym, Jr, and his wife Kathleen, and Karen Curley and her husband, the late John Curley. She is also the loving grandmother of Daniel and Kristina Sym and of John and Kevin Curley and the great grandmother of Connor Sym. She is the sister of Walter Bespuda and his wife Maryellen and of the late Elsie Bespuda. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may greet her family on Monday from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road,Shelton. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 AM for a service at 10 AM in the Three Saints Orthodox Church, Ansonia. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton.
