Lena Sbardellati, an 85 year old Ansonia resident, wife of the late August Sbardellati and loving friend, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, entered into eternal rest Jan. 23.
She was born Sept. 28, 1936 in Derby, daughter of the late Emilio and Ida Mondazzi D’Ascanio.
Lena graduated from Ansonia High School and The Bridgeport Hosp. School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for Griffin Hospital and VARCA Inc., (both in Derby) The State of CT. and Ansonia High School over the years. Lena was a parishioner of The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. She was a member of The Red Hat Ladies. She was avid card player, as well as knitting, dancing and crossword puzzles.
She loved her family, and enjoyed times together such as weekly family dinners and a family tradition of “Gnocchi Sundays.”
She also enjoyed Bruce Springsteen and Neil Diamond.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Michele Sbardellati-Mead of Ansonia and Lisa Pranger and husband Thomas of Oxford, grandchildren Zachary Pranger, Emilia Mead-Cota and husband Dan, Tyler Pranger and Tyler and Brandon Reese, great-grandchild Logan Mead-Cota, brothers Sam D’Ascanio and wife Alice of Plantsville and Joseph D’Ascanio of Shelton, brothers-in-law Pat Aceto of Naugatuck and Edward Sbardellati and wife Clare McFadden of Montpelier, VT as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Mary Aceto, son-in-law James Mead and sister-in-law Maureen D’Ascanio.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. (DIRECTLY) at The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lena’s memory may be made to The Assumption School, 51 N. Cliff St., Ansonia, CT 06401.
