Libere “Bert” DeVincentis, age 88, beloved husband to Josefa Ferreira DeVincentis, a longtime Shelton resident currently of St. Cloud FL, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 12 at Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, FL.
He was born June 7, 1922 in Tocco da Casauria, in the province of Pescara, Italy to the late Eugenio & Maria Scalpelli DeVincentis.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 1848th Service Command Unit Prisoner of War Camp. He received a field commission to Lieutenant Colonel and received the Purple Heart. Following his time in the service, Bert studied watch making but ultimately found his calling as an electrician and started his own business, B&D Electric.
An avid sportsman, he was also passionate about music and loved to perform as a disk jockey at local festivals.
He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, where he was active in the Italian Festival Committee for many years. He was also a dear and devoted friend to Father Vincent Iannetta.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother to his three children,
Julia DeVincentis, his brother Orlando “Pat” DeVincentis and his sister Bambina Lanza. Bert is suvived by his wife Josefa DeVincentis of St. Cloud, FL, his sister Josephine Rasile of West Haven, his son Bertram DeVincentis of Shelton, his daughters Delores Twigg of Saint Cloud, FL & Joyce DeLoma of Shelton, numerous grand & great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. He is also survived by precious pets, Chica & Tony.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 8:00 a.m. from the Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St, Ansonia, CT. The funeral will leave for a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Derby. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby.
