Lorraine Hummel, age 85, wife of the late John D. Hummel and resident of Oxford, passed away Jan. 13, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 5, 1933 in Wakefield, MA., daughter of the late John & Verna Steeves Wilson.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Edna Wilson McKearin of Florida and nephew John Blair McKearin. Lorraine is also survived by her niece Paula Rae Baldwin Brother in law Charles Hummel (Joyce) Oxford, Marie Greene Southbury, Elizabeth Lovitt N.C., Jane Rose Derby.
She also leaves to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who she loved and were an active part of her life.
She spent her primary years attending Ansonia public schools graduating from Ansonia High School in 1951. After graduating she attended Stone Business School and began her employment in the payroll department of local companies including Farrels in Ansonia, Kerite in Seymour and Southbury Training School from which she retired. She married John on August 5, 1956 they enjoyed 60 year marriage of travel and running a successful landscaping business until John’s passing in 2016.
She leaves to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who she loved and were an active part of her life. Lorraine was a member of The First Congregational Church in Ansonia.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers that tended Lorraine with compassion, patience and understanding which allowed her to remain in her home during her illness.
Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. (http://www.jenkinskingfh.com) Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at The First Congregational Church in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Great Hill Cemetery in Seymour.
