Lorraine Sciongay, age 97, of Shelton entered into rest on Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Bishop Wicke Health Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Chester Sciongay. Lorraine was born in Poland on December 4, 1921, daughter of the late John and Carolyn Cybart, and lived in Shelton for most of her life.
She was a certified hairdresser and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a warm, kind-hearted soul that brought so much laughter and happiness to everyone around. She will be deeply missed but always with us, deep within our hearts. She is the beloved mother of Jack Sciongay and his wife Mary Jane, and the late Diane Wendland.
She also leaves a brother, Joseph (Dick) Cybart, a sister Eileen Witek and her husband Leonard, six cherished grandchildren, Jack Sciongay Jr., Jason Sciongay and Jeffrey Sciongay, David Wendland and his wife Maria, Michael Wendland and his wife Casey, and Brian Wendland, and seven great-grandchildren, Amber, Logan, and Jamison Sciongay and Ashley, Danielle, Matthew and Axel Wendland.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Eugene, John Jr., and Andrew Cybart, and three sisters, Frances Falcioni, Jane Skurat, and Cassie Weaver.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM. On Thursday her procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM at St. Michael’s Church in Derby. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Derby.
