Louis A. Maffeo, 94, peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 22, 2016, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Antoinette “Dora” Cafasso Maffeo.
Mr. Maffeo was born in Ansonia on March 11, 1921, son of the late Alexander and Nicolina Coppola Maffeo.
A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was employed as a photo engraver and photo lithographer for the former Koppel Photo Engraving Service in Derby and New Haven and Graphic Color Plate in Stamford until his retirement. A proud veteran, he honorably served during WW II in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Being a charter member, Lou was instrumental in the organization and building of Hilltop Hose Co. # 5 in Ansonia. He was a devoted and active communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia and a member of its St. Joseph’s Men’s Society and had the distinction of being the third president of the Catholic Men’s Club. He served as former president of the City of Ansonia Board of Aldermen, chairman of Ansonia Redevelopment Committee, former member of Valley Transit and was the former president of the New Haven Photo Engravers Union. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Ansonia, CWV in Derby and former member of the Ansonia Democratic Town Committee.
He is survived by a loving daughter, Lynda Supp and her husband Shaun, a loving son, Thomas A. Maffeo and his wife Betty, all of Ansonia, cherished grandchildren, Keely Edwards, Megan Supp, Christine Anton (Christopher), Jennifer Maffeo-Morrissey (MAJ Daniel, USAF) and Anna Dealy (James), great grandchildren, Devany and Cailyn Edwards, Joshua and Katie Anton and Benjamin Dealy, sisters in law, Ann Pitney (Carmen) of Ansonia and Marion Cafasso of Shelton and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Stephen and Angelo Maffeo and sisters, Rose Barone and Phyllis Costantino.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday January 28, 2016, from 4 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Friday, his funeral will take place at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. U.S. Air Force military honors will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at http://www.stjude.org or Rev. Carlos Garces Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.
