Louis D Gaetano Jr., age 69, of Derby, entered into eternal rest on Saturday January 23, 2016 with his loving family by his side.
Lou was born in Derby on Nov. 24, 1946, the oldest son of the late Louis D and Margaret (Baumer) Gaetano Sr. He was the loving father of Pamela (Jay) Benanto of Woodbridge and Louis E. (Amy) Gaetano of West Haven. His greatest joy in life was being a grandfather to his cherished grandchildren John, Hannah, and Luke Benanto. They were truly his pride and joy and affectionately called him their “Popsy”.
Lou is also survived by his brothers Glenn (Vera) and Paul (Elaine) Gaetano along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and his former spouse Margaret Gaetano. Throughout his adult life he was a dedicated follower of “Friends of Bill W” and was instrumental in helping countless people achieve a lifetime of sobriety. He was a lifelong supporter of Derby athletics where he enjoyed watching his brothers, son, and grandson Johnny perform. “Popsy” was always his children and grandchildrens biggest supporter both on the field and in life.
Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby. His funeral will leave the funeral home on Tuesday at 12:30 pm for a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm in St. Mary Church, Derby. Burial will be in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery.
