Louis J. Nikel

Louis J. Nikel, age 92, entered peaceful rest on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen Turek Nikel. 

Lou was born at home in Ansonia on August 12, 1930, son of the late Boleslaw Ben” Nikel and Justine Kramkowski Nikel. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Grammar School, Ansonia High School, and New Haven College (University of New Haven). He was employed in the insurance industry holding managerial positions with several major insurance companies throughout his career. He honorably served in the U.S. Army Reserve where he retired with the rank of chief warrant officer. Lou was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Ansonia and was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a fan of UConn Women’s Basketball and the NY Giants. 

He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Gregory L. Nikel and his wife Nancy H. Nikel of South Salem, NY, a daughter, Susan L. Nikel of Rockville, MD, grandson, Harry L. Nikel of NY, NY, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Per Lou’s request, his funeral service will be private and he will be buried alongside his wife in St. John’s Cemetery in Stratford. There will be no visiting hours.
