Luciano Nocella, 73, peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 8, 2017, in Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Marta Dell’Oso Nocella.
Mr. Nocella was born in Trieste, Italy on January 15, 1943, son of the late Giovanni and Emma Cecchi Nocella. He came to Derby from Italy at the age of seventeen and moved to Ansonia in 1985. Luciano was employed as a machinist at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford until his retirement. He was very proud of his Italian heritage, was a member of the Sons of Italy Valley Lodge in Derby and enjoyed cooking and watching soccer.
He is survived by a son, Giovanni “Nino” Nocella of Derby, a granddaughter, Leah Nocella of Ansonia, a sister, Pina Pepin of New Britain, a sister in law, Lucy Nocella of Ansonia and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Marta, he was predeceased by a brother, Benito Nocella.
Visiting will take place on Wednesday morning January 11, 2017, from 9:00 – 10:00 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 10:15 am, his funeral will process to the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ansonia Animal Shelter, 2 Elm Street, Ansonia, CT 06401 or through the funeral home.
