Lucille (Vellturo) Sardo, age 96, a lifelong resident of Ansonia, entered eternal rest on May 23, 2024, at Hewitt Health & Rehab in Shelton.
She was the beloved wife of fifty-three years to the late Eugene L. “Gino” Sardo Sr. Lucille was born in Derby on May 3, 1928, daughter of the late Angelo J. and Antoinette Alu Vellturo.
A graduate of Ansonia High School in 1945, she was employed as a dental assistant for her uncle and dentist, the late Dr. Frank Alu, in the 1950’s.
In the 1960’s she worked at the former Millie’s Luncheonette on Main Street in Ansonia and later at both the former Sardo’s Snack Bar in Ansonia and Crossroads Hot Dog Stand on upper Beaver Street in Ansonia, until her retirement.
Lucille was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church and a member of the Rosary Guild as well as a member of the Ansonia Senior Center. She enjoyed frequent trips to the casino and traveled extensively throughout the United States with her husband to attend his military reunions.
Each Sunday was spent with family enjoying traditional home cooked Italian meals and she looked forward to her weekly card games with her girlfriends. Lucille was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees and UConn Women’s basketball.
She also enjoyed knitting afghans and slippers for her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Eugene L. Sardo Jr. (Mary “Mame”) of Ansonia, a daughter, JoAnn Sardo (Tracy Rappa) of Seymour, grandchildren, Jason Pandolfi (Danielle) of Ansonia, Jamie Pandolfi (Dan) of New Haven and Courtney Martino (Nick) of Wethersfield, great-grandchildren, Dante Yakabauskas and Peyton Pandolfi of Ansonia, brother, Dr. Anthony Vellturo (Barbara) of Sierra Madre, CA, sister-in-law, Natalie Vellturo of Fairfield and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John Vellturo.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:30 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Her funeral will then proceed to Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.
