Lynn Hitzler

Our beloved Brittaney Lynn Hitzler gained her angel wings on January 18th, 2022 in the Smillow Cancer Center at Yale-New Haven Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She entered into peaceful and pain free rest after long and difficult battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

She was born in Derby, Connecticut on February 25, 1990, beloved daughter of Dennis Hitzler and Michelle (Duquette) Wakeley and her husband Brian. She graduated from Seymour High and the Certified Nursing Program at Griffin Hospital, she was always the caregiver. Brittany was an Oxford resident for most of her life before moving to Prospect seven years ago.

She was the loving sister of Chelsea Hitzler, John Krysinski, Tyler Wakeley and Trevor Wakeley and his wife Katie, granddaughter of Carol Hitzler and the late Jim Hitzler and the late Robert and Irene Duquette. Brittaney was also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and so many friends.

Brittaney was cherished and loved by all who knew her. Her mother will tell you that Brittaney was singing only minutes after birth. Anyone who knew her would know how true that is. She has always loved to sing and used her talent to calm and comfort anyone with just the melody of her voice.

Brittaney was an absolute selfless person. She would always help anyone in need and put others before herself. As a child, she grew a deep love for all animals, but favored horses and her dogs the most. She was a dedicated Pet Mom and you knew she was truly happy while in the presence of animals. Brittaney loved thunderstorms and being apart of nature, taking long walks with just her dogs and the breeze. She had a knack for writing poetry and could convey any emotions with her ability to turn a phrase.

Brittaney was a dedicated daughter, sister, cousin, granddaughter, niece, aunt, pet mom and friend. She grasped and understood the meaning of loyalty by being true to herself and all that she loved.

On Sunday, friends may greet the family from 2:00 — 4:00 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. Masks are required in the funeral home. On Monday, friends are invited to go directly to St. Mary Church, 212 Elizabeth St., Derby for her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
