Margaret “Peggy” (Baumer) Gaetano, age 84, of Derby entered into eternal rest on Saturday July 20, 2013 with her loving family by her side.
She was the devoted wife of the late Louis D. “Neni” Gaetano Sr. She was born in Naugatuck, CT on March 31, 1929, daughter of the late John and Margaret Talbot Baumer and was a Derby resident for most of her life.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church Derby. Peggy was predeceased by her four older sisters, Jean Santore, Bernice Mitchell, Rita Vickers and Ann Biondi. The five sisters were a close-knit bunch, proud of their Irish heritage. Peggy’s passing marks the end of their era.
She was predeceased in 2011 by her husband “Neni,” her Derby High School sweetheart of 64 years. Over the 45 years they lived on Lakeview Terrace, their home was always full of love and happiness, from Derby High football victory parties to family events and celebrations. Peggy was an avid sports fan, following the New York Yankees, UCONN Women’s Basketball and Derby High Football. She and her life-long friend, Anna Piscioneri, spent many Saturdays at Derby’s Ryan Field behind the end zone cheering the Red Raiders.
Peggy retired in 1992 after working 15 years at the United Methodist Convalescent Home in Shelton. She enjoyed her trips to the casino but her greatest joys were her children, her beloved grandchildren & her cherished great-grandchildren. Her family will miss her dearly.
She is survived by sons Louis Gaetano Jr. of Derby and daughter-in-law Margaret Gaetano; Glenn Gaetano and wife Vera of Shelton; and Paul Gaetano and wife Elaine of Shelton; granddaughter Pamela Benanto and husband Jay; grandson Louis Gaetano and wife Amy; grandchildren Tyler and Emily Gaetano; and great-grandchildren Johnny, Hannah, and Luke Benanto. She is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the most wonderful staff of floor 1C at Hewitt Health & Rehab Center in Shelton for the loving care provided throughout the past year, especially Casey Picheco, Maria Bautista, and Aretha Kufa and thanks to her caring niece Patty Stonoha.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 from 4 to 7 pm at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. On Wednesday July 24, 2013, her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 8:15 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Mary’s Church, Derby. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. At the request of her family, memorial contributions may be made to “Valley Community Foundation” to benefit the Louis “Neni” Gaetano DHS Scholarship Fund.
