Margaret M. “Margie” (Morse) Cannici, age 74, of Derby, peacefully entered eternal rest on December 16, 2023, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife of Anthony J. Cannici for over 54 years.
Margie was born in Derby on June 19th, 1949, daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Callahan Morse. She attended Assumption School in Ansonia and graduated from Ansonia High School in 1967. Margie received the sacraments at Assumption Church and, despite her illness preventing her attendance, remained a dedicated Catholic, staying devoted to Jesus throughout her life. Having been a resident of Derby for forty-nine years, Margie’s last professional role was as a manager in the business office at Griffin Hospital in Derby.
A steadfast Democrat, Margie kept a keen eye on day-to-day politics and remained well-informed about current events. In her leisure time, she enjoyed watching “Days of Our Lives” and “General Hospital,” indulging in QVC shopping sprees, and sharing moments with Tony while they watched “Jeopardy” every evening. Margie was an avid Notre Dame football fan and passionately cheered for her beloved Ansonia Chargers. However, nothing brought Margie greater love and joy than her two precious grandsons, Patrick, and Brendan.
Despite enduring a prolonged and challenging battle with Multiple Sclerosis for over 35 years, Margie’s spirit never wavered. Her resilience and strength served as a source of inspiration for all who knew her. Margie consistently wore a smile for visitors and never displayed an ounce of self-pity. Her unwavering courage in the face of adversity serves as an inspiring lesson for us all.
In addition to her loyal and loving husband, Tony, Margie is survived by her son, Michael A. Cannici of Derby, daughters Laura C. Palmer (Donald) of Ansonia, and Tara M. Cannici of Ansonia. She is also survived by her brother, Edward J. Morse of Derby, a devoted twin sister, Kathleen Morse of Ansonia, grandsons Patrick Palmer of Derby and Brendan Palmer of Ansonia, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank Morse, and sister, Ellen Troy, with whom she spent countless hours on the phone, sharing many laughs as well as her brother-in-law, Ralph Troy.
Margie’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and her legacy of love, resilience, and joy will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
