Maria Caruana

Maria Caruana, 91, of Orange, peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 19, 2013, at Marshall Lane Manor in Derby. She was the beloved wife of the late Pietro Caruana.

Mrs. Caruana was born in L’Aquila, Abruzzi, Italy on February 3, 1922, daughter of the late Pasquale and Carmela Panone Santavicca. She was a resident of Italy until moving to be with her daughter 6 years ago. Maria was devoted to her family and enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and making dresses.

She is survived by a loving daughter, Elia Giordano and her husband Louis of Orange, two sons, Antonio Caruana and his wife Maria Pia of Civitavecchia, Rome, Italy and George Caruana and his wife Marlene of Spring Hill, FL, a brother, Tonino Santavicca of L’Aquila, Italy, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Pasquale Pat” Caruana and a daughter Annunziata Caruana.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday June 21, 2013, from 4 to 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Saturday, friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Derby. Entombment will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Mausoleum in Derby.
