Maria Giugno

Maria Giugno, 70, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on November 7, 2014, in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Gaetano Giugno for 52 years.

Mrs. Giugno was born in Caltanissetta, Sicily, Italy on July 25, 1944, daughter of Michelina Rossica Giordano of Ansonia and the late Salvatore Giordano. She and her husband were married in Italy on February 6, 1962 and shortly thereafter were blessed with two sons, Salvatore and Mario. In 1966, they traveled to the United States and settled in Ansonia where their two daughters, Letizia and Gina were born. Maria was a devoted communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two sons, Salvatore Giugno of Naugatuck and Mario Giugno (Gina) of Ansonia, two daughters, Letizia Posta (Benedetto Sr.) of Woodbridge and Gina Eliasson (Nils) of Derby, a brother, Louis Giordano (Elia) of Orange, a sister, Josephine Colapietro (Pasquale) of Ansonia, 11 cherished grandchildren, Alicia Ayala (Jose) and Antonio J. Posta of Woodbridge, Benedetto J. Posta Jr. of Ansonia, Lisa Marie Giugno, Michele A. Giugno and Michael A. Giugno of Naugatuck, Melissa E. Giugno and Maria T. Giugno of Ansonia, Brian M. Eliasson, Joseph R. Eliasson and Robert A. Eliasson of Derby, 3 great-grandchildren, Santino M. Ayala, Lia M. Mercado and Nico M. Giugno and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant son, Michele Giugno.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday November 9, 2014, from 3 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Monday, her funeral will be held at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Entombment will take place in Mt. St. Peter’s Mausoleum in Derby.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association through the funeral home.
