Maria J. Lonardo, 92, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on November 27, 2013, at Birmingham Health Care in Derby. She was the beloved wife of the late John T. Lonardo.
Mrs. Lonardo was born in Derby on May 28, 1921, daughter of the late Vincenzo and Concettina Nicoletti Cammarata. She grew up in Ansonia and moved to Derby after marrying John. Maria was employed as a manager for Better Packages in Shelton and assisted with their family business, Lonardo’s Ice, until retirement. She was a communicant of St. Jude Church in Derby and a member of its Legion of Mary. Maria was also a volunteer at the West Haven V.A. Hospital and a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Derby.
She is survived by a son, Michael J. Lonardo of Ansonia, granddaughters, Marisa Lonardo (Jim Solomine) of North Haven, Monica Grace Lonardo of Milford, Mara Lonardo of East Haven and Maria B. Lonardo of Orange, a devoted sister, Michalena “Mickey” M. Sampieri of Ansonia and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Nicholas and Attileo Cammarata and sisters, Rose DeGregoria, Helen Reardon, Burina Tonucci and Albena Cammarata.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday December 1, 2013, from 3 – 6 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Monday, her funeral will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Jude Church in Derby. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Memorial contributions in Maria’s name may be made to St. Jude Church through the funeral home.
