Maria J. Pereira, 96, peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 15, 2014, at the Cheshire House in Waterbury. She was the beloved wife of the late Domingo T. Pereira Sr.
Mrs. Pereira was born in Cape Verde Island, Portugal on June 25, 1917, daughter of the late Pedro B. and Isabel DaSilva Rodrigues. A resident of Ansonia for many years, she enjoyed cooking and vegetable and flower gardening. She was happiest when entertaining family. Regardless of her language barrier, Maria was a kind, loving and friendly woman who always found a way to connect and build relationships with people. At the Cheshire House, she was active doing arts & crafts, playing Bingo, painting, and music.
She is survived by three daughters, Isabel D. Silva (Roy) of Waterbury, Maria DeMayo (Edward) of MD and Angelina Cardoso (Jose) of Milford, a son, Domingo T. Pereira (Wendy) of MA, two sisters, Maria Lopes of MA and Ana Barbosa DaSilva of Portugal, six cherished grandchildren, Stefanie Silva, Jessica DeMayo Henderson (Larry), Eric DeMayo, Angelina and Jose Cardoso and Jun Yao Pereira, two precious great-granddaughters, Natalya and Layla Henderson and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Ayiana Henderson and several brothers and sisters.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday March 18, 2014, from 5 – 8 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Wednesday, friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Church of the Assumption, 61 North Cliff Street in Ansonia. Interment will take place in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.
