Maria Orama, 74, peacefully entered into eternal rest on October 17, 2013, at Vitas Hospice at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved and devoted wife of Jose A. Orama Sr.
Mrs. Orama was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico on May 27, 1939, daughter of the late Juan and Andrea Ruiz Cuevas. A prior resident of Bridgeport, she was employed at the former Bridgeport Web and Blase Manufacturing in Bridgeport until her retirement. Maria deeply loved her family and enjoyed shopping and cooking.
In addition to her husband Jose, she is survived by three sons, Jose A. Orama Jr. (Lizzette) of FL, Nelson Orama (Hwa Cha) of Stratford and Hiram R. Orama Sr., (Nancy) of Newtown, a daughter, C. Aleida Filippone (Gus) of Ansonia, nine cherished grandchildren, Jonathon Lopez of SC, Jose P. Orama and Elia P. Orama (Markus) of Stratford, Daniel Orama of FL, Jessica Marie Orama and Hiram R. Orama Jr. of Newtown, Vanessa Orama of FL, Domenico Filippone and Nina Marie Filippone of Ansonia, three great-grandchildren, Jonathon Lopez, Malia Hennegan, and Arianni Orama and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Jose, Miguel, and Wilfredo Cuevas.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday October 20, 2013, from 2 – 5 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Monday, friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby.
