Maria Soriano, an 85 year old Ansonia resident, passed away at home on March 11 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Nov. 5, 1935 in Paraiso, El Salvador to the late Hemenegildo Soriano and Juana Velasquez Soriano.
She served as a nun in her native El Salvador before emigrating to America in 1978, when she became a nurse. She had a passion for nature and was an avid gardener. She attended the parishes of St. Joseph Church in Shelton and the Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son Milton Soriano and daughter-in-law Lidia, with whom she resided, her daughter Juanita Taylor-Soriano and son-in-law Richard of Waterbury, and grandchildren Gabriela, Sofia, and Alejandro Soriano, all of Ansonia and Bianca, Isabella, Daisy and Maya Taylor, all of Waterbury. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, March 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Shelton. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
