Marie R. Chebro

Marie R. Chebro, age 93, of Derby entered into rest on Monday, September 9, 2024 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late George Chebro.

Marie was born in Nanticoke, PA on September 6, 1931 daughter of the late Joseph and Regina (Siejak) Hamary and was a Derby resident since 1956.

She prepared taxes for H & R Block for 30 years and was the manager for three years prior to her retirement. Marie was very active with the Cub Scouts and BSA Troop 3 in Derby. While with the Scouts she received the Scout Leader Training Award, President’s Award, District Award for Merritt, Bronze Pelican Award and the Silver Beaver Award. She was also a Girl Scout Troop Leader for her daughter’s troop and helped with the high school marching bands that her children took part in. Marie was also the former treasurer for Friends of the Library, was involved with Friends of Scouting, and was an avid bowler. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.

She was the beloved mother of Michael Chebro and his significant other Carol Vass, Thomas Chebro and his wife Patricia, Robert Chebro and the late Sister Linda Chebro RSM. Marie was the loving grandmother of 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 — 3:00 PM at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. On Monday, her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:15 AM for her Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Michael Church. Her burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
