Marie Vinceza Smith

Marie Vinceza Smith, age 83, of Derby, entered into rest on Friday May 2, 2014 in St. Mary Hospital with her loving family by her side.

She was the beloved wife of the late David Milton Smith, who was a decorated ArmyCorpMan of the Korean War.

Marie was born in Derby on October 30, 1931, daughter of the late James and Mary (Velleco) Pitney and was a proud lifelong Derby resident.

She was a Nurse who was employed for over 45 years until her retirement. Marie was the HNIC and very instrumental in helping to annually organize the Derby-Shelton Memorial Day Parade and was the secretary of that committee for many years. She was a former second chair Eastern Star King Hiram Lodge.

She is the beloved mother of Mary Porter and her husband Michael, loving grandmother of Edward, Alexis, Christopher, Sean, Joshua, Ashley and step grandmother of Celeste and also survived by several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant son David Smith, Jr.

Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 6, 2014 at 1 pm in the First Congregational Church of Derby, 137 Derby Ave. Derby. 

Friends may call on Tuesday following the service from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to No Vet Left Behind, Inc. c/o the funeral home.
