Marion E. Cowden, age 76, of Shelton, entered into rest on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at her home with her loving family by her side.
She was the devoted wife of 55 years to Joseph W. Cowden.
Marion was born in Queens, New York on December 11, 1936 daughter of the late Christopher H. and Astrid Kissel. Marion and her husband Joseph previously lived in Massapequa, New York for 15 years prior to moving to Connecticut in 1977.
She was a graduate of St. Agnes High School in Rockville Center, New York and Fordham University and worked in retail before her retirement. Marion was a devoted member of St. Lawrence Parish and very active in the Women’s of St. Lawrence. She was also a Third Order Carmelit, a member of the Mystical Rose Community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Province of Saint Elias.
Mrs. Cowden is the loving mother of Marianne Keating (husband James), James G. Cowden (wife Rosemaria), Virginia Cowden-Kretzler (husband Jon) and Dina Sullivan (husband Andrew), sister of, Dorothy Maddalena, Joan Foglia and the late Christopher H. Kissel, Jr. Marion has 12 grandchildren and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. On Monday, her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church. Her burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
