Mary Lou Palumbo

Mary Lou Palumbo was a registered nurse who had a gift for serving others. She passed peacefully on Thursday January 29, 2015. She was 84.

She was born on July 2, 1930 to the late George H. and Mary Belle Clark in Derby.

Mary Lou attended Oxford and Seymour schools. After graduating from High School, she continued her education at Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing.

Her career included work in Norfolk General Hospital, Atlantic City Hospital, Southbury Training school, the Seymour and Oxford School systems. Prior to her retirement, she was the Oxford school’s nurse. She was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion. At Oxford School, she was often referred to as more than a nurse; she served as a friend and a great listener to those who visited her office and had a profound and positive effect on many students, parents and faculty.
She was a special mom to her two sons. She was their nurse, on call ambulance, teacher, mentor, friend, critic and confidant. She transferred those skills, knowledge, love and care to her precious grandchildren. We are all blessed to have known such a positive spirit.

She was involved in local 4‑H, Oxford garden club, and loved creating stained glass for friends.

Mary Lou cherished her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband Peter, sons Steven and Michael, daughters-in-law, Rachel and Teresa, sister, Jane Fryncko, sister-in-laws, Josephine Mastro, Mary Sherwinsky (pre-deceased), grandchildren, Caroline Ashley, Olivia Marie, Julianna Alexis and Samuel Matthew, nieces, Janice Redmond and Marcia Zeidler (Fryncko), nephews, John Fryncko and Tony Tiano and several other relatives and dear friends.

She is gone but her spirit remains with us. We will miss you mom.

Services are private. The Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour, CT., is compassionately caring for the family.
