Matilda Palmieri

Matilda V. “Mitzi” (Malerba) Palmieri, age 87, a lifelong resident of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest in the early morning hours of March 12, 2018, in the comfort of her home, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Ferdinand F. Palmieri Sr.

Mrs. Palmieri was born in Derby on February 14, 1931, daughter of the late William and Jennie DePrisco Malerba. She loved to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren, especially on Sundays, when she cooked plentiful Italian meals. She also enjoyed summer picnics and visiting the casinos.  

She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Ferdinand F. “Fred” Palmieri Jr. (Josephine) of Ansonia and Thomas F. Palmieri (Barbara) of Seymour, daughters, Cheryl Ann Pirritino (Domenick) of Port St. Lucie, FL and Genevieve A. “Jean” Antinozzi (Arthur) of Seymour, a sister, Margaret Cerritelli of FL, eight cherished grandchildren, sixteen cherished great-grandchildren, devoted friend and caregiver, Patience Dedoo and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Vincent “Jim” Malerba Sr. and Aniello “Owney” Malerba Sr., sister, Genevieve D. Lombardi and daughter-in-law, Kathleen M. Palmieri.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday March 15, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Friday, her funeral will begin at 8:45 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at St. Mary the Immaculate Conception Church in Derby. Interment will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. The family sends a heart-felt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of CT Hospice of Shelton and Griffin Hospital for their wonderful care.
