Matthew J. Lazzara, age 31, unexpectedly entered peaceful rest on February 3, 2023, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. He was the loving and devoted soulmate to Samantha Retkowski.
Matthew was born in Bridgeport on April 27, 1991, beloved son of Charles R. Lazzara Jr. of Milford and Cheryl Mahoney Lazzara of Ansonia. A 2009 graduate of Ansonia High School, he was employed at Gardner Heights Health Care in Shelton for thirteen years, currently the director of maintenance. He was also employed for many years at the former Eddy’s Bake Shop in Ansonia. Matt was a friend to all and was loved by everyone that was fortunate to have met him. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed online fantasy sports leagues chatting with his “fox bowl” friends. Above all, Matt was a wonderful father and his young boys were his world.
In addition to Samantha and his parents, he leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Ryder M. Lazzara, age 7, and Myles S. Lazzara, age 4, of Milford, a brother, Anthony C. Lazzara Sr. (Melissa) of Ansonia, a sister, Chloe R. Lazzara of Milford, paternal grandmother, Carol Jayne Lazzara of Milford, maternal grandmother, Dolores Diaz Mahoney of Farmington, a nephew, Anthony C. Lazzara Jr. of Ansonia as well as several cousins and countless friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 7:00 pm, a funeral service in celebration of Matt’s life will take place with Rev. David Bradt, officiating. Burial will be private.
