Maureen A. Raccio, 59, of Derby was reunited with her parents on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, after a brief illness. Maureen was predeceased by her parents, Marie (Sorcinelli) and Philip Raccio and an infant sister, Doreen.
Born on December 31, 1954, Maureen was a devoted daughter, caring for both her parents. A 1972 graduate of Derby High School, she spent her career at EBP Supply Solutions working in various positions.
Maureen always cared more about others than herself, always turning the spotlight back to them with a “how are you doing?” even throughout her illness. She demonstrated a quiet strength, trying to help those around her to cope with their impending loss and not wishing to impose on anyone.
A seasoned domestic and international traveler, she enjoyed reading, beading, shopping, and dining out. She was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, always quick with a witty response. Her friends and family will miss her tremendously, but consider themselves lucky to have known her. “You’re not kidding.”
Maureen is survived by numerous cousins, especially Gene and MaryEllen Sorcinelli, Sharon and Ed Wynne, Irene and Rob Despins, Betty and Jay Marrone, Jo-Anne and Allan Cegan, Al and Karen Marrone, Marie and Joe Castiello, and godchildren Samantha and William. She also leaves to treasure her memory special friends the EBP Supply family, Bev Kennedy, Linda Johnson, Joan Guliano and Carol Johnson.
The family would like to thank EBP Supply, St. Mary’s Parish, CT Hospice, Griffin Hospital, and the AMR and Storm Ambulance teams.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen’s memory to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 or Storm Ambulance, PO Box 99, 151 Olivia Street, Derby, CT 06418.
Friends may greet the family at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby, on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 4 – 7 pm. On Saturday, September 20, her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Derby. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby.
