Metro “Bubs” Smerekanicz, 84 passed away after a long illness on December 12, 2010 at Shady Knoll Health Center. Metro was a life long seymour resident, and retired after 35 years from the New Haven Copper Co. formerly in Seymour. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, and served in combat duty as a Communications Specialist. Metro found great happiness spending time with family and always enjoyed watching the NY Yankees, or making trips to the casinos.
Metro was the son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Sydoriak) Smerekanicz. He was predeceased by brothers, William, JOhn, Louis, and Joseph; and sisters, Mary Smerekanicz and Dorothy Bates. Metro leaves a brother, Paul (Janet) Smerekanicz of Beacon Falls, and sisters, Julia Yester and Lillian Wisneski in California, Helen Smerekanicz of Seymour, Paulette (Randall) Smith in Virginia, and Patricia Baker of Ansonia. He was adored by many nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with full Military Honors will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.
