Mirta Alicia Verdes, age 85, of Shelton entered into rest on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
She was the devoted wife of 65 years to Alejo Antonio Verdes. Mirta was born in Havana, Cuba on December 16, 1936, daughter of the late Fructuoso and Regina (Morales) Piedrafita and was a Shelton resident for 25 years coming from Richmond Hill, Queens, New York.
She was a pre‑k teacher at Holy Child Jesus Catholic Academy in Richmond Hill, New York until her retirement. While in New York, she was a deacon and very active at Holy Child Jesus Church. Mirta loved to cook. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.
She was the beloved mother of Alejo N. Verdes and his wife Barbara, Annette Verdes DeMeo and her husband Christopher and the late Patrick Verdes and Andrew A. Verdes and loving grandmother of Andrew J. Verdes, Alyssa Verdes and Alexis Verdes.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. On Friday, friends are invited to go directly to St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Avenue, Shelton for her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Her burial will follow at Lawn Cemetery, East on Lane Street, Shelton.
