Monty Blakeman, age 66, entered into eternal rest on April 23, 2011 at his home in Shelton, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Burlington, VT on May 14, 1944, son of the late Harold and Mary (Musbek) Blakeman. Monty was a proud member of the Shelton community for many years and was a supporter of many associations, including the Shelton and Monroe Police Unions, Boy Scouts of America, Special Olympics of CT, and Shelton High School’s team sports and fundraisers.
He was involved in numerous clubs and organizations, including the NRA, Safari Club International – Connecticut Chapter, HBA of Fairfield County, Marquis Builders Alliance, the Harley Davidson Rider’s Club, and served as a board member on the Shelton Builder’s Association and as a 242nd Engineer for the National Guard.
Monty, a commercial and residential developer, was a hard working, self made man who found great pride in his projects and loved the land.
His most notable developments were The Center at Split Rock, Huntington Woods, Boehm Pond, Rollingwood Estates in Newtown, Aspetuck Village, Knollbrook Condominiums, Old Field Estates in Southbury, Big Horn Acres, Saw Mill Estates, Round Hill Estates, Buck Hill Estates in Shelton, Joyful Valley Estates in Oxford, Housatonic Rise, Mont’s Mart, Walgreens in Seymour, and CVS in Milford.
Monty is the beloved father of Christine Blakeman, James Blakeman and his wife Julie; the devoted grandfather of Kenneth and Nikki Molina, Jeanine and Corey Blakeman; the brother of Allan Blakeman and his wife Joan, Geno Blakeman and his wife Barbara, Wesley Blakeman and His wife Catherine; and the uncle of Allan, Kevin, Mark, Marlene, Michelle, Gino, Michael, Wesly, and Laura.
He is also survived by his companion Pam Ginnetti, his best friend Sue Coyle and several great nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, from 3 PM – 7 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton.
Friends are invited to go directly to St. Joseph’s Church, 424 Coram Ave., Shelton on Wednesday for a Mass of Christian Burial at a time to be announced.
Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Monty Blakeman Fund at the Valley Community Foundation, 2 Enterprise Drive, Shelton.
