Nancy Verdun

Nancy Verdun, age 102, a resident of Derby since 1981, peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 19, 2021, at Griffin Hospital, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Vittorio Verdun. 

Mrs. Verdun was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 10, 1918, daughter of the late Antonio and Jennie Campisi Caruana. She was employed as a seamstress at various dress shops in the New York City area for forty years, until her retirement. A devout Catholic, she was a Third Order Franciscan. She enjoyed needlepoint and crocheting and tended to her flower and vegetable gardens into her late 90’s. Nancy was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, children, Grace Morelli of Derby, Tony Verdun (Roberta) of Monroe Township, NJ, Joseph Verdun (Rosalia) of Rosele Park, NJ, and Joann Pastore (Michael) of Staten Island, NY, grandchildren, Robert Morelli and John Morelli of Derby, Fiorina Kaplan (Eric) of Wallingford, Tony Verdun, Matthew Verdun, Joseph Verdun, Dante Verdun and Nancy Policelli all of NJ, Michael Pastore, Maria Pastore and Karen Pastore of Staten Island, NY, seventeen great-grandchildren, sisters, Matilda Imbro of Ansonia, Mafalda Imbro and Maria Campaniolo both of FL and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Gabriele Morelli, brothers, Gerlando, Pietro and Vincenzo Caruana and sisters, Rosina Polizzi, Ida Giaimo, Elvira Frenda and Lydia Falzone. 

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday June 23, 2021, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, June 24, 2021, relatives and friends are invited to meet directly at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia for her Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Garden Mausoleum in Derby.
