Nellie A. Kopasz

Nellie A. Kopasz, 98, of 41 Church St. died Saturday at the Lord Chamberlin.

Born in Ansonia on July 16, 1911, daughter of the late John J. and Domicela Sedgewick Kaslaitis, Nellie was a retired cashier at Finest after 30 years of service. 

She was also a communicant of the St. Anthony Church, who had graduated from the Assumption School and attended Ansonia High School. 

She was also employed as a machinist for Hershey Metal Co.

Nellie was a member of the Derby Senior Center and a past president of the Shelton Catholic Ladies Society. She loved to travel in her younger years.

Survivors are one son, Robert Kopasz and his wife Gertrude, both of Bridgeport; granddaughter Kim Arsenault and her husband Arthur, both of Bridgeport; great-grandson Shawn Kopasz of New Jersey; great grandson Robert John Kopasz of Stratford. 

Also, step-grandchildren Joseph Stage and his wife Linda of Shelton, Mary Louise Furlong of Bridgeport, Judy Glass and her husband William, both of Bridgeport, and step great-grandchildren. 

Nellie was predeceased by brothers Getty and John Kaslaitis. She is also survived by brother in law Joseph Kopasz and his wife, Mary, of Shelton and three beloved friends Totti Laverty and Eva and Butch Grusz. 

Nellie’s funeral service will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the Bennett Funeral Home at 91 N. Cliff St. Ansonia to St. Anthony Church for mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. St. Peters Cemetery in Derby. 

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony Church fund, in care of the funeral home.
