Nelson B. Valente, age 78, of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on July 29, 2017, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Amelia Dokla Valente.
Mr. Valente was born in New Haven on April 12, 1939, son of the late Charles Valente Sr. and Marion Spear Valente. Nelson grew up in West Haven and moved to Ansonia where he resided for 60 years. He was employed by Painters Local Union 186 in New Haven and later was the owner of NBV Painting for 30 years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing almost every course in New England and many in Florida, California and Ireland. Unity, Maine gave him peace and happiness, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing in the mountains, forests and streams and forming lasting friendships with the locals. Nelson also enjoyed spending winters in the warm weather in Orange City, FL and sitting along the West Haven boardwalk watching and meeting people and their dogs. A proud veteran, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the C.W.V. in Derby, American Legion, St. Sebastian Men’s Club and the Eagles.
In addition to his wife Amelia, he is survived by a loving son, Scott B. Valente (Laurel) of Oxford, cherished grandson, Nicholas David Valente (Shannon) of Naugatuck and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Richard D. Valente, infant son, Andrew Charles Valente, brothers, Charles Jr., Norman, George, Sherwood and Gary Valente.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday August 2, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, his funeral will begin at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Army military honors will follow in St. Michael Cemetery in Derby.
