Nicholas A. Grassi

Nicholas A. Grassi, 86, peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 23, 2016, at Shady Knoll Health Care in Seymour. He was the beloved husband of Rita Miani Grassi.

Mr. Grassi was born in Bridgeport on Sept. 19, 1929, son of the late Frank and Philomena Conge Grassi. A resident of Ansonia since 1980, he was employed in the composite dept. at Sikorsky Aircraft in Bridgeport for 41 years until his retirement. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict. Nick was a devoted communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, where he served as an usher at the 11:00 am Mass. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council 10537, where he had the honorary distinction of serving as a Fourth Degree Knight. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 50 in Ansonia and the V.F.W. in Stratford. Above all, Nick deeply loved his family and was happiest when they were all together. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a loving son, Nicholas A. Grassi II and his wife Carmen Diana Grassi of West Haven, a loving daughter, Phyllis M. Grassi of Ansonia, sisters, Mary G. Martin and Lucille S. Grassi of Ansonia, Dolores Flokos (Ronald) of Naugatuck and Barbara Storer of West Haven, cherished grandchildren, Vanessa K. Grassi of Derby, Nicholas A. Grassi III of West Haven, Mark R. Miller of Branford, Amy L. Miller of Derby, Christle M. Gavin of West Haven and Rita M. Gavin of Ansonia, great grandchildren, James M. Brown and Teresa C. Brown of Derby and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Teresa C. Miller and a grandson, Frank J. Grassi.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday March 28, 2016, from 4 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Tuesday, his funeral will take place at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Marine Corp. military honors will immediately follow in the family plot in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rev. Carlos Garces Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.
