Nicholas T. Baranowsky

Nicholas T. Baranowsky passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 6th.

Born and raised in Derby, he called Port St. Lucie his home for the last 27 years.

Nick was a presence that was larger than life, and anyone who met him, would not soon forget him. Known by most for his warped sense of humor, unique personality, and deep voice, he was also a very generous and loving man. He had many friends and acquaintances, and made new ones wherever he went.

Nick had various careers throughout his life. In his former residence of Connecticut, he owned a tree service business, drove trucks for both Beard and D’Addario companies, and was a proud member of the Teamsters.

In Florida, he continued his love of driving trucks, working for Bealls and Causeway for several years. He later remained in the trucking business, working security for R&L Carriers.

Nick was also an avid gun fan and supporter and loved motorcycles. He was also more than happy to share his opinions with anyone within earshot, and was not shy in his views. He could often be found holding court in his garage, which held the many, many “treasures” he collected.

Nick was also very much a family man. He loved to spend time doing nothing and everything with his best friend and beloved wife of 37 years, Joan (Curtiss), also formerly of CT.  They were the perfect pair and complimented each other beautifully.

He is also survived by his daughter, Kerri Baranowsky Pomponio (husband Rob), of Newtown, CT. Nick had a special relationship with his daughter and they spoke every week.

He is also survived by his (step) daughters, Suzanne Curtiss, of AZ, and Linda Curtiss Rabbitt (husband Tim), of FL, whom he loved as his own; his grandchildren: David, Nicole, and Chris Fogg, Nicholas Bruno, and John Rabbitt; and his great grandchildren: Devin, Jacob, and Ethan.

He was pre-deceased by his father, Nicholas T. Baranowsky, Sr, his mother Bertha Krueller, his brother George Baranowsky, and his cousin, Frank Baranowsky, all of CT. He also leaves behind a brother and sister.

Nick lived his life every single day just the way he wanted, and wanted to be remembered that way. Per his wishes, there will be no arrangements made. However, please feel free to contact Joan to visit for a bit and share some stories about how Nick touched your life for the better. We all miss him so very much!

“God called your name so gently
that only you could hear
No one heard the footsteps
Of the Angel drawing near…
Softly from the shadows, there came a gentle call,
You closed your eyes and quietly left us all.”
