Nicolina Matilda Cardillo, 90, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on September 24, 2013, at Griffin Hospital in Derby, with her loving family by her side.
Mrs. Cardillo was born in Stamford on March 14, 1923, daughter of the late Ermano and Carmela Ciarleglio Morelli. She was a resident of Stamford for most of her life before moving to New London and then Ansonia.
She was a faithful wife, adoring mother and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Nicolina had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh and was exceptionally kind to everyone. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and believed deeply in contributing to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
She is survived by a loving son, Richard A. Cardillo of Ansonia, two loving daughters, Roseann Delaney of VA and Anita Backman of Ansonia, a brother, Dominick Morelli of NJ, four cherished grandchildren, Roy L. Backman of Ansonia, Anita Knighton of VA, Jack Delaney of KS and Helen Stevens of VA, eight great-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. She was predeceased by a son, Anthony Cardillo.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday September 28, 2013, at 10:30 am (please meet directly) at Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia. Her urn will be placed alongside her son in St. Mary’s Mausoleum in New London at the convenience of the family. There will be no visiting hours.
Memorial contributions in Nicolina’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101.
