Orlando “Cheech” Rivera Sr.

Orlando Cheech” Rivera Sr., age 74, entered eternal rest on December 7, 2023, at Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the beloved husband of forty-three years to Phyllis Baranek Rivera.

Cheech was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on October 19, 1949, son of the late Jose and Otilia Diaz Rivera. A resident of Ansonia since 1957, he was employed as a carpenter for CGM Acoustics Inc. in Bridgeport for many years. A proud veteran, he honorably served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. Cheech loved sports, especially watching the New York Giants, and attending Ansonia High School football games. He was the creator of, Memories of the Valley Facebook page. Cheech enjoyed riding his scooter around town and watching the television series Gunsmoke.

In addition to his wife Phyllis, he leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Orlando CJ” Rivera Jr. (Tristin) of Ansonia and Brian J. Rivera (Heather) of Ansonia, a brother, Jose Rivera of Ansonia, a sister, Carmen Rivera (Cliff Stevenson) of FL, grandchildren, Gabe Rivera, Jacob Rivera, Lincoln Sloan, and Lily Rivera as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Monday December 11, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 6:45 pm, United States Army military honors will be accorded followed by a prayer service in celebration of Cheech’s life with Deacon Victor Lembo officiating. Burial will be private.
