Oscar Schwarz

Oscar Schwarz, age 89, a longtime resident of Derby, lost his short but courageous fight against cancer on February 18, at his daughter’s home with his loving family by his side. 

Oscar was born on April 11, 1927 to Heinrich and Berta (Schalchli) Schwarz in Altikon, Switzerland. He served in the Swiss Army and was a member of the Swiss Drum Corps. Oscar was a member of the Bricklayers Union until his retirement. 

He is survived by his loving wife Elisabeth (Meier) Schwarz of 64 years, one son Urs (Lori) Schwarz of Naugatuck, CT, three daughters Doris (Daniel) Turner of Naugatuck, CT, Monica (Kenneth) Slowik of Orange, CT, and Sylvia (James) Royston of Longwood, FL, his ten grandchildren Jessica and Heather Schwarz, Melissa and Raymond Turner, Cassandra, Julian and Christian Slowik, and Ashley, Victoria and Joseph Royston, great granddaughter Kayleigh Roberts-Turner, several nieces and nephews and a sister 

Verena (Schwarz) Hager of Kusnacht, Switzerland. He is predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Karl Schwarz and a sister Berta Monachon. 

Oscar loved spending time with his family and friends, gardening, masonry, bricklaying, repairing things, and woodworking. He was an avid fan of UCONN Women’s Basketball and the New York Rangers. He also enjoyed watching the motorcycle racing, Food Network Channel, Wrestling and MMA Boxing.

Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd. Shelton, CT with his memorial service at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
