Patricia Phelan Macaluso

Patricia Phelan Macaluso, an 84 year old Ansonia resident, passed away May 17.

She was born Sept. 30, 1940 in Stamford, daughter of the late James and Florence Nichols Phelan. Patricia spent most of her professional life working for Save the Children and Walden Books where she met many life-long friends. Patricia was an incredibly social person, who could meet and talk to anyone. She enjoyed many nights out with her girlfriends, chatting over food, wine, and many laughs. Her family cherished her kindness and loving nature. They would spend nearly every holiday at her house, where she would find joy in being able to fill her living room with gifts for her chilren and grandchildren, each one thoughtfully picked out and generously given.

Being able to spend time with, cook for, and make her family laugh was what Patricia loved most and will be remembered for most fondly. In addition, Patricia spent many years as an avid sports fan, rooting the New York Mets on, season after season after season. Back in the day, in addition to rooting for her kid’s at their various sporting events, she was actually known to have driven in a drag race (or ten). She talked, even decades later, of how freeing of a feeling racing was; constantly boasting about being able to keep up with the boys”, something that she truly prided herself on.

Patricia lived a long life, with an undeniably beautiful spirit, right up until the end. She was predeceased by daughter Lynne Lynch and son William Boyd. She leaves two sons, Richard Boyd of Ansonia and John Woodruff (Laurie) of Danbury, her daughter Susan Baratti (Andy) of Waterbury, and grandchildren Madalyn & Danielle Baratti, both of Waterbury and Shannon & Wallace Boyd, both of Trumbull. A celebration of Life will be celebrated privately at the convenience of the family. The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, has been privileged with arrangements.
