Paul Alexander Gaynor, of Seymour, CT and The Villages of Lady Lake, FL passed away on April 29 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his spouse Wendy Gaynor, daughter Katherine, son Patrick, brother Gerald and his family, as well as many cousins. Paul had three grandchildren: Madison Gaynor (his star “Jeopardy opponent”) of Louisiana; Hazel & Mary Pelletier of Oregon, and his beloved Goldens; Lily and Skye.
Paul was a retired Seymour Police Officer, Private Investigator, and Regional Manager for the State of CT — Commission of Human Rights & Opportunities, located in Bridgeport.
He was an avid golfer — a former member of Race Brook C.C. and a social member of Highland Golf Club. He also belonged to the Golf Collector’s Society and the USGA. Prior to his death he was an active member of Scotscraig Golf Club in Scotland and The Villages, FL. One of his special memories was playing a round of golf with friends at St Andrews Old Course.
Paul loved his antique cars, and had the opportunity to participate in the “Circuit of Britain” touring the English country side in his MG with his son and other MG enthusiasts. Paul also enjoyed racing his 52 MKII MGTD and 53 Lotus 6 at Lime Rock Park, Watkins Glen, and the Pittsburg Grand Prix. One of his most memorable competitions took place at Lime Rock, while competing against Paul Newman, who he described as… “just a regular guy.”
Paul was a quiet, thoughtful man who loved History and his country. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Donations can be made to the American Legion, Post 10 in Seymour CT, or to the “Tunnel To Towers Foundation”. The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, has been privileged with arrangements. Funeral services have been held privately by the family.
