SANDY HOOK: Paul G. Izokaitis Sr., age 74, entered into eternal rest on June 17, 2021, at the West Haven VAMC, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved fiancé of Barbara Charlonis.
Paul was born in Germany on September 11, 1946, son of the late Bruno and Anna Achenbachas Izokaitis. A resident of Ansonia for twenty-five years, before moving to Sandy Hook, he was employed at the Stop & Shop warehouse in North Haven for many years, until his retirement. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1967 – 1969, his last two years in Vietnam. He was a member of Teamsters Local Union 443 in New Haven and served as former Captain of Hilltop Hose Co. in Ansonia. Paul loved gardening, landscaping, fishing, home improvements and his annual Fourth of July and Labor Day picnics. He also enjoyed tending to his tropical fish, watching Fox News, manicuring his lawn, and relaxing on his back deck bird watching and enjoying nature.
In addition to his fiancé Barbara, he leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Paul G. Izokaitis Jr. (Mandy) of Beacon Falls, a daughter, Paula Izokaitis Bergen of Ansonia, sister, Cookie Izokaitis (Joseph Pascarella Jr.) of North Haven, grandchildren, Ryan Bergen and Kaylee Izokaitis, former spouse, Margaret Macciocca Izokaitis of Ansonia and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Justin Bergen, sisters, Erna VanBruinisse and Elsie Dievert and a niece, Kathryn VanBruinisse.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and their pay respects on Thursday June 24, 2021, from 4:00 to 6:30 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 6:30 pm, a funeral service will be held with Rev. Jeffrey Gubbiotti officiating followed by U.S. Army military honors. Burial will be private.
