Paul R. Lutson

Paul R. Lutson, age 79, of Stratford passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, in Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport on June 6, 1945, to the late Paul and Helen Rose (Fabian) Lutson, he was a lifelong area resident. He enjoyed a successful career at SNET and AT&T, working his way up from a splicer’s helper to the Field Splicing Supervisor for Fairfield County. Paul always enjoyed the friendships and the collegiality of his team and other supervisors, with whom he met regularly after his retirement.

Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and served his country honorably in Korea and Germany. As a veteran, he was an active Service Officer and a member of the John H. Collins American Legion Post #24 in Derby. He also was a member of the St. Michael’s Post 1562 of the Catholic War Veterans and Auxiliary in Derby, the Wheeler-Young VFW Post #201 in Waterbury and the Disabled Veterans of America Chapter 15 in Milford. As Paul’s colleague and friend Andy Cota has said: If a Vet needed help, Paul was always ready to provide it.”

On behalf of Paul, his family thanks the medical staff at Stratford’s EMS, the Stratford Police and Fire Departments and especially the medical team at Bridgeport Hospital for the urgent service and heartfelt care they provided for Paul throughout the last several weeks.

Survivors include Paul’s brother Robert of Stratford, with whom he lived for many years. Together they raked leaves, cut the grass, cleaned, shopped, laughed, and shared many memories. Survivors also include his nephew Jeffrey A. Cots and grandnephews Kyler Cots and Xander Cots, who reside in Mount Dora, Florida.

Paul had a special affection for the Cots, who are the son and grandsons of his predeceased sister Shirley Rose (Lutson) Cots. In addition to his immediate family, Paul is survived by his cousins in Pennsylvania: Shirley Malta and Sandy Patton and their families, his beloved cousin Susan Fabian of Fairfield, Ronald Fabian of Milford, John E. Connolly Jr. of Guilford, and James M. Connolly of Stratford. Paul also is survived by his mother’s only surviving sister, Ethel Zadravetz of Fairfield, and his former wife Yolanda Lutson.

Paul also is survived by his loving and dedicated companion, Ursula Martino, with whom he traveled the world, rang in the New Years, sang the Oldies, and danced the nights away.

Paul also is survived by his longtime friend Barbara Chechoski and her family. Barbara and her deceased husband Chet were old friends” of Paul’s, and their daughters Tammy, Wendy, and Jodi — along with Susan Connolly — were Paul’s special angels during his final days.

Recently, Paul very generously established the Paul R. Lutson Charitable Fund, which is part of the Valley Community Foundation. Anyone wishing to honor Paul with a donation may visit their website: valleyfoundation.org
