Pauline Gaudio Facchini, age 84, of Ansonia, CT, beloved wife of the late Louis “Gige” Facchini, entered into eternal rest on February 9, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Pauline was born in Derby, CT, on March 29, 1936, the daughter of the late Pasquale Gaudio and Paolina Fiorillo Gaudio. She was the seventh of seven children.
Pauline was a dedicated mother and is survived by her children: Barbara Duncan (Tom) of Ansonia, CT; Linda Haynes (Paul) of Oxford, CT; and Louis Facchini III (Fara Manzanillo) of Boca Raton, FL. Pauline was predeceased by her sisters Vincenza “Jenny” Napychank, Margholata “Margie” Ponsillo, Rose Plavecki, and Frances Tomasko, as well as her brothers Vincenzo “Jim” Gaudio and Pasquale Gaudio Jr. Pauline is survived by her five beloved grandchildren: Lauren Hale (Thomas Wethington) of Brooklyn, NY; Caitlin Hale of Brooklyn, NY; Emily Holt (Daniel) of Oxford, CT; Kevin Haynes of New York, NY; and Louis Facchini IV of Boca Raton, FL; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson Holt and Nolan Holt of Oxford, CT. She is also survived by her former son-in-law and dear friend, Gary Hale of Hamden, CT.
Pauline graduated from Derby High School and was an enthusiastic majorette for the school’s marching band. Once married, Pauline became a lifelong resident of Ansonia and a devout parishioner of the Holy Rosary Church, especially on Sunday bingo nights. She ran the housekeeping unit in Griffin Hospital for nearly 20 years, and was later employed as an administrative assistant for the Derby Superior Court Clerk’s office.
Pauline always opened her home to others looking to enjoy a homecooked meal. Upon opening the front door to her house on Francis Street, friends and family were greeted with an aroma of Pauline’s freshly baked apple pie and New York style cheesecake (that she would proudly exclaim took four days to make!) These savory scents were a staple of any visit, outweighed in sensation only by the echoes of laughter that filled hallways after one of her infamous, quick-witted jokes. Pauline’s spirit of generosity extended far beyond baking.
Pauline was a fighter – she fought for her loved ones, patients, and employees, and for her life towards the very end. She was a fierce advocate for her children and grandchildren, and was never afraid to ask for what was needed. Pauline enjoyed making ceramics, UConn basketball games, and family vacations to the New Jersey shore. Pauline’s joy will forever be remembered by her generosity, love of laughter, and commitment to standing up for others.
A contactless walk-through visitation will be held on Saturday, February 13th, 2021 from 9:00 to 10:00 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/ BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street, Ansonia, CT.
