Peter Syrgiannis

Peter Syrgiannis, age 92, of Seymour, entered into rest on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Bridgeport Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of 49 years of Carol A. (Hunyadi) Syrgiannis.

Peter was born on January 1, 1932, in Edessa, Greece, son of the late Konstandinos and Soulthana Syrgiannis. He came to the United States 1969 with his oldest two daughters and first wife Virginia, who soon after passed away. In 1975 Peter married Carol and they along with their four daughters lived in Bridgeport before moving to Seymour 32 years ago.

As a young man he served in the Hellenic Army in Greece and was the goalkeeper for the Greece National Football team. He later worked as a project manager for the Greek government.

Peter loved gardening, working outdoors, and he was an outstanding cook but most of all he loved spending time with his family and they always came first in his life. Family was always at the center of his life as from the young age of 14, when he lost his father and had to help his mother with raising his younger siblings.

Peter for so long defied the laws of aging. A handsome well dressed man and a great dancer, but most of all a just man, who hated injustice more than anything. A perfectionist, at times to a fault and the rock for his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed and remembered.

He is beloved father of Nandia Syrgiannis, Christina Syrgiannis (Tosha ), Loretta Ferrigno (Frank), and Jacquelyn Cushman (Will), cherished grandfather of Tommy, Kristen, Nick, Stephen, Zain, Jack, and William, and proud great-grandfather of Charli, Leo, and Landon. Peter is also survived by a sister, Maria Baur and her family as well as several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Dimitrios Syrgiannis, and a sister, Katina Syrgiannis.

Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Friday from 3 to 5 PM. His funeral service will begin in the parlor on Friday at 5 PM.
