Provvidenza “Enza” Trapani Santangelo

Provvidenza Enza” Trapani Santangelo, 94, of Ansonia, entered into rest on Saturday morning October 22, 2011, in the comfort of her home, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Paolo Santangelo. 

Mrs. Santangelo was born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy on August 13, 1917, daughter of the late Salvatore and Giuseppa Davi’ Trapani. After immigrating from Sicily in 1963, she lived in Derby, and was a resident of Ansonia for 42 years. She extremely loved her family and will be dearly missed by all. Enza enjoyed crocheting blankets and scarves, cooking, playing cards, and watching TV, especially her Italian” programs. A devoted Catholic, she especially enjoyed attending Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Ansonia. 

She is survived by two loving and devoted daughters, Maria Grazia Mary Grace” Mazzacco and her husband Nicholas of Ansonia and Anna D’Onofrio and her husband Giovanni of Bridgeport, a loving son, Anthony Nino” Santangelo of Arizona, a son in law, Giuseppe Valenti of Ansonia, thirteen cherished grandchildren, Nancy Mazzacco, Paula (Tony) Peluso, Steven (Angela) Mazzacco, Patricia Palumbo, Anthony (Maria Luiza) Mazzacco, John (Providenza) Valenti, Rosario (Michele) Valenti, Paul (Kim) Valenti, Cynthia Gallo, Frank D’Onofrio, and Daniella, Melissa, and Gina Santangelo, 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Salvatore Santangelo, a daughter, Giuseppina Valenti, brothers, Michele, Antonino, Roberto, Giuseppe, Mario, and Angelo Trapani and a sister Margherita Salvato. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Wednesday October 26, 2011, at 9:15am from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Church in Ansonia. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on TUESDAY from 4 – 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Church through the funeral home.
