R. David Chemlen of Oxford, CT passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. He was the husband of 52 years of Sandra (Petruny) Chemlen.
He was born in Waterbury, CT on September 8, 1941 to the late Leon and Bertha (Mulica) Chemlen. He attended Bunker Hill Grammar School and graduated from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School. He then furthered his education at New Haven College. He began his career with the metal finishing business in 1959. After years as a very successful salesman for several large companies, he founded Chemlen Associates, which he continued to manage until his passing.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter Noel and her husband Richard Cherubino of East Haddam, CT; his son, Keith Chemlen and his wife Yesica of Methuen, MA; his grandson and best buddy, Sean, of Southbury, CT; and grandsons Leonardo and Massimo of East Haddam, CT; his sister-in-law Carol Chemlen of Bedford, MA; his nephews Chris, Jeff, and Michael; his sister-in-law and dear friend Janet; and his devoted niece Jennifer. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Florence, and his brother Leon.
He has been a proud member of AA for fourteen years. He treasured his sobriety and the love and friendships he shared there. We will all miss his generous nature, his sense of humor, his love of the Red Sox and football, and most of all, his undying love and devotion to his grandsons. They were his life.

We will never forget the compassion and care of Peter Levinson, MD and his office staff. We would like to also thank our many, many good friends and neighbors, who are like our family, for their love and devotion.
We would like to acknowledge the outstanding personal care of his cardiologist Dr. Abhishek Jaiswal, MD and the staff of Bliss 10 Stepdown Unit Hartford Hospital. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Center for Advanced Heart Failure or the Bridge Clinic at Hartford Hospital through the Funeral Director. Donations of plush fleece blankets may be made directly to the Vitas Hospice Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital in memory of Dave for the comfort of their patients and family members.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Seymour, CT. Visitation will precede the Mass from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the Church. Directly following Mass there will be a luncheon downstairs in the Church hall. The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home of 12 Franklin St, Ansonia, CT has been entrusted with all arrangements.
