Ralph J. Cavagnuolo

Ralph J. Cavagnuolo, 95, entered into eternal rest on September 11, 2017, at CT Hospice, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Mildred Rader Cavagnuolo. 

Mr. Cavagnuolo was born in Derby on October 17, 1921, son of the late Salvatore and Anna Raucci Cavagnuolo. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW 2. Ralph was active in Derby politics and served as City Sheriff and later as Derby’s Tax Collector and Welfare Commissioner under three administrations. He also was the co-owner of the former Carvel Ice Cream in Derby for several years. After leaving politics, he was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft for eight years, until his retirement in 1986. Following his retirement, he worked part-time as a driver for the former Service Auto Parts in Ansonia until 2011. 

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted daughter, Janice A. Margiano of Derby, grandchildren, Donald Margiano Jr. of Derby and Michelle, Kelly and Emily Cavagnuolo of CA, a great-grandson, Colin Cavagnuolo-Pyles of CA, a brother, John Cavagnuolo (Emma) of Derby, a sister, Catherine Pereiras of Derby and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Ralph J. Cavagnuolo Jr., a grandson, Anthony Cavagnuolo, brothers, Frank, Fred, Lou, Dominick and Salvatore Cavagnuolo and sisters, Mary Belford and Connie Wasko. Ralph loved his family dearly and was deeply loved in return. 

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday September 14, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 7:00 pm, a funeral service in celebration of Ralph’s life will take place with Rev. Leonard Kvedas officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
